The Consumer Data Right (CDR) is a service that lets you (residential and businesses customers) share your energy data easily and securely with authorised third parties, so they can compare offers and potentially find you a better deal. CDR is also active in the banking sector.
The CDR framework for safe and secure data sharing was designed and is overseen by the Australian Government. To take part in this initiative residential customers and businesses must provide consent and authorise their data to be shared by their energy retailer.
EnergyAustralia is an Accredited Data Holder (ADH) under the CDR. EnergyAustralia will only share your data with accredited data recipients.
CDR is an opt-in service. Customers choose whether they want to share data, and you can amend or withdraw your data sharing arrangements at any time.
IMPORTANT: As part of secure CDR data sharing, we’ll never ask your to share your EnergyAustralia login details, password or one-time pass codes with a third party.
EnergyAustralia is only able to share your CDR data with an Accredited Data Recipient (ADR). An ADR is a third party that has been accredited by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).
If you authorise us to share your data with an ADR, we will share:
- your details, including your name and address
- current electricity plan details
- details of any concessions or payment plans you have
- payment detail preferences
- current account balance, your bill and payment details for up to the last 2 years
The Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) also provides other types of CDR data that apply to you, including your electricity usage data, called ‘metering data’ (up to the last 2 years), and a snapshot of the current National Meter Identifier (NMI) standing data and Distributed Energy Resource (DER) data relating to your premises.
Under the Competition and Consumer Act and the CDR provisions there are strict rules that apply to both the collection, use and sharing of data.
If you give your consent, your chosen ADR will request access to your energy data from us. This ADR must be accredited by the ACCC, and meet strict privacy and information security standards.
The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) also regulates the privacy of CDR data.
For residential customers, the first step in sharing your CDR data is to contact an ADR. A list of current ADRs can be found on the CDR website.
Your chosen ADR will co-ordinate with you with the steps you need to take to complete the process. In most circumstances, you will not need to contact us as the CDR is designed to be a fully online experience.
For business customers, call us on 1800 146 749 first to nominate a CDR Representative as a contact on the business account to proceed with the CDR data sharing set-up.
You don’t need to have an online account or use the My Account app to choose to share your CDR data.
You will need to ensure that the data for the electricity account you want to share has the email address you registered with that account. This is the email address you use for communication with us.
The email address needs to be linked to the electricity account you want to share data for, and is unique to your accounts. We recommend that you don’t share that email address with other EnergyAustralia accounts which are not in your name.
To review, and authenticate the CDR data sharing arrangement you have set up with EnergyAustralia, please visit our CDR Customer Dashboard.
You can decide at any time to amend your data sharing arrangements, for example, change the time period that the data is shared for .
To amend any CDR data sharing arrangement, please contact the ADR you have chosen or visit the CDR Customer Dashboard.
For details of other assistance we can provide, please refer to these FAQ’s.
You can choose to withdraw your consent to CDR data sharing at any time. All you need do is visit the EnergyAustralia CDR dashboard or contact us for assistance.
Your CDR data sharing will end immediately – it is not possible to nominate a date in the future to stop CDR data sharing.
If you’re having difficulties giving consent for CDR data sharing, please check the following trouble shooting solutions:
- EnergyAustralia may hold multiple email addresses for you or your email address or other identity details are incorrect. This means we can’t securely and uniquely identify you. To confirm your details and solve this issue, please call us on 133466. We will securely confirm your identity and update the information on your records. When this is complete you will receive a one-time pass code which will allow secure login and set-up of your CDR data sharing. Your one-time pass code will be valid for 10 minutes. When it expires, you will need to request a new code.
- If you enter your one-time pass code and it is rejected, please contact us so we can update, add or correct your records.
- If you want to set up CDR data sharing for a business account, please call 1800 146 749 to nominate a CDR Representative as a contact on the business account to proceed with the CDR data sharing arrangement.
- In rare circumstances, it is possible that you are not eligible for CDR data sharing. Please review our CDR policy or call us to find out more.

- On your EnergyAustralia CDR dashboard, the error message ‘No active arrangements available’ means there are no active consents on your account. This may be because your original CDR data sharing arrangement has ended. Please contact your chosen ADR to set up a new data sharing arrangement.
