From 1 July 2017, the NSW Government Low Income Household Rebate is $285 (excluding GST) per annum. This rebate is applied as a daily amount on your electricity bill. The exact amount of the rebate paid on each bill will depend on the number of days in that billing period.

The premise for which this rebate is claimed must be your principal place of residence.

To be eligible, the account holder must hold one of the following concession cards:

• Centrelink Pensioner Concession Card
• Centrelink Health Care Card
• Department of Veterans’ Affairs Pensioner Concession Card
• Department of Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card (for recipients of War Widow or War Widower, Totally and Permanently Incapacitated rate or Extreme Disablement Adjustment rate pensions)

If you rely on bottled or metered LPG or live in a on-supplied residential community, retirement village or strata scheme, you can also access the NSW Government Gas Rebate. You can apply for this rebate directly with the NSW Government using the attached form.

The Medical Energy Rebate is for eligible customers who are unable to self-regulate their body temperature when exposed to extreme (hot or cold) temperatures due to certain medical conditions such as Parkinson's disease and Multiple Sclerosis.

From 1 July 2017, the NSW Government Medical Energy Rebate is $285 (excluding GST) per annum. This rebate is applied as a daily amount on your electricity bill. The exact amount of the rebate paid on each bill will depend on the number of days in that billing period. This rebate can be paid in addition to the NSW Government Low Income Household Rebate.

To be eligible for this rebate, you must submit a valid application form which has been signed by a registered medical practitioner which verifies that either the customer named on the bill or someone else residing at the residence has an inability to self-regulate body temperature. A copy of this form is attached here.

In addition, the account holder must hold one of the following concession cards:

• Centrelink Pensioner Concession Card
• Centrelink Health Care Card
• Department of Veterans’ Affairs Pensioner Concession Card
• Department of Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card (for recipients of War Widow or War Widower, Totally and Permanently Incapacitated rate or Extreme Disablement Adjustment rate pensions)

The NSW Government Life Support Rebate provides additional financial support to customers who require the use of specific life support machines in their home. If you have more than one type of life support machine in your home you are eligible to receive more than one rebate.

This rebate can be paid in addition to the NSW Government Low Income Household Rebate and NSW Government Medical Energy Rebate. Customers do not have to be a concession card holder to be eligible to receive this rebate.

To be eligible for this rebate, you must submit a valid application form which has been signed by a registered medical practitioner which verifies that the use of the approved life support equipment is required at your principal place of residence. A copy of this form is attached here.

The exact amount of the rebate paid on each bill will depend on the number of days in that billing period and which machine type you are using.

The Family Energy Rebate assists families with managing their energy costs and it’s only available to residential customers who receive the Commonwealth Government’s Family Tax Benefit A or B.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Family Energy Rebate within a financial year, you must:

1. Be a New South Wales resident; and
2. Be an account holder with EnergyAustralia or a long-term resident of an on-supplied residential community, whose name appears on the electricity account for supply to his or her principal place of residence; and
3. Have been assessed by Services Australia as eligible for Family Tax Benefit (FTB) A or B at any time during the financial year immediately preceding the financial year in which an application for the Family Energy Rebate is made and received a payment of FTB in respect to that eligibility.

The Family Energy Rebate is $180 for non-concession card holders and $20 for concession card holders. The amount you are eligible to receive will be determined by the NSW Government when you apply.

You'll need the following information in order to complete the application:

•  Your Services Australia Customer Reference Number (CRN)
•  If applicable, your Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) number, and
•  Your recent EnergyAustralia electricity account containing all relevant billing information.

The NSW Seniors Energy Rebate is available for eligible independent retirees to help cover the cost of their electricity. This rebate is administered by the NSW Government.

To be eligible you need to hold a Commonwealth Seniors Health Card (CSHC).

The NSW Seniors Energy Rebate is $200 per household, per financial year.

If your application is successful, the rebate will be paid directly into your nominated bank or Credit Union account.

Note: Gas accounts are not eligible for the rebate.

Eligibility

• be the primary account holder named on your electricity bill
• apply for the rebate at your primary place of residence.

• your most recent electricity bill from EnergyAustralia
• your contact details
• your bank or Credit Union account details.

How to apply

1. Check you meet the eligibility requirements.
2. Select the 'Apply online' button from the following link (Apply for the Seniors Energy Rebate | Service NSW).
3. Log in, or create your MyServiceNSW Account.
4. Enter the required details.
5. Submit the application.

If you're unable to apply online, visit a service centre or call ServiceNSW on 13 77 88.

If your application is successful, you'll receive payment within 5 working days into your nominated bank/Credit Union account. Service NSW will contact you if there are problems issuing your payment.

If your application is unsuccessful, you'll be notified during the application process.

The National Energy Bill Relief scheme was introduced by the National Cabinet to help soften the impact of rising energy prices. The scheme provides assistance to eligible residential and small businesses to help cover the cost of their electricity during the 2023-24 financial year. This initiative is co-funded by the New South Wales (NSW) and Australian Governments.

If you’re currently receiving the NSW energy rebate in financial year 2023-24, you’ll automatically receive the National Energy Bill Relief payment each quarter. Only one National Energy Bill Relief payment will be provided per household. For residential customers, the payment is $500, split into four instalments. For small business customers, the payment is $650, split into four instalments.

If you don’t receive a NSW energy rebate and are eligible for the National Energy Bill Relief payment, you can now apply at Home (nsw.gov.au). Applications close 30 June 2024. The payment will be applied as a lump sum amount of $500 for residential customers, or $650 for small business customers.

The New South Wales (NSW) Government Rebate Swap Offer is designed to help eligible NSW residents cut their energy bills.
If you currently receive the NSW Government Low Income Household Rebate, you may be eligible to swap your rebate for a free, fully installed, 3 kilowatt solar system.
To be eligible you must:

• currently receive the NSW Government Low Income Household Rebate
• agree to no longer receive the NSW Government Low Income Household Rebate for 10 years
• hold a valid Pensioner Concession Card or Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) Gold Card
• own and live in your house
• not already have a solar PV system.

Note: If you're not the registered homeowner but your spouse is, your household may be eligible.

To apply, you will need to complete an application with the NSW Government at Rebate Swap (nsw.gov.au). To complete your application, you'll need to upload:

• a council rates notice or similar evidence to confirm that you own your home
• a recent electricity bill to confirm that you're receiving the NSW Government Low Income Household Rebate
• an image of your Pensioner Concession Card or DVA Gold Card to confirm it is valid and up to date.
