EnergyAustralia is marking 10 years since its customer contact centre opened its doors on Moorabool Street in Geelong.

EnergyAustralia is one of Australia’s leading energy retailers and generators, with 1.6 million customers across eastern Australia, employing 2,300 people. Almost 10% of its workforce is employed in Geelong.

EnergyAustralia’s Chief Customer Officer, Kate Gibson, said, “In 2014, we began with 44 employees, and now we have nearly 200. We estimate than more than 1,000 people from Geelong and around the local region have represented EnergyAustralia over the last decade in our customer contact centre.

“We are proud of the fact that a number of those initial 44 employees remain with us today, and now lead teams with the enthusiasm, passion and empathy they displayed on their first day.

“With the current cost of living crunch and challenging economic times for many, we have seen a considerable influx of customer hardship calls come in. These customers require patient, knowledgeable, supportive, and respectful people on the other end of the line to help them manage their energy queries. Our people take that responsibility incredibly seriously.”

One of the Geelong Customer Contact Centre’s longest standing employees, and now Team Leader, Matthew Walsh, acknowledged the key changes he has witnessed over the last decade, and that the team has never been busier.

“We are operating in a very different world to 10 years ago, particularly with the rise of digital technology. But through every innovation, our customers just want it to be a simple, personal and connected interaction with us. The team here at Geelong always aim to deliver just that.

We are hoping to add to our amazing team here, so I encourage people to keep an eye out for future opportunities, “said Mr Walsh.

EnergyAustralia has a strong track record of investing in the communities in which it operates in. The local team in Geelong has completed over 1,600 hours of volunteer work and donated over $400,000 to grass roots, locally based organisations, such as Geelong Mums, Murran Indigenous Community Hub, Geelong Breakfast Club and Geelong Food Relief.
