The Mt Piper Brine in Ash Co-Placement project area was approved for development in 2000 as part of a modification to the existing Project Approval for the Mt Piper Power Station. In 2007, a further modification was made to extend the Brine in Ash co-placement project area.
This approval enables the co-placement of brine in ash by conditioning the flyash with brine, rather than water. In this way, the brine produced in the process of generating electricity at Mt Piper Power Station can be disposed of in accordance with relevant licences and approvals.
