EnergyAustralia has today announced its leading electricity carbon offsetting program, Go Neutral, is now open to residential gas customers, giving them the power to offset all household energy emissions at no extra cost.
A quarter of a million EnergyAustralia electricity customers have already signed up to Go Neutral, which is the largest carbon offsetting product of any energy retailer or generator in Australia, and one of the largest Climate Active certified offset products in the country.
Mark Collette, EnergyAustralia’s Chief Customer Officer said the expanded program is bigger and better for the benefit of customers and the environment.
“Go Neutral is all about people power. Together our customers have already offset more than 1.6 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions from their household energy usage – the equivalent to taking around 500,000 cars off the road for a year1,” said Mark.
“By expanding Go Neutral to include gas customers, we’re hoping to make an even bigger, positive, impact. New, or existing, EnergyAustralia customers can choose to Go Neutral with their gas and electricity at no extra cost by updating their preferences on our website, or through our MyAccount portal and app.”
Mark said that EnergyAustralia purchases carbon credits that are used to offset the greenhouse gas emissions associated with standard energy usage.
“By joining our Go Neutral program, customers will support important, government-certified carbon reduction projects in Australia and overseas, such as land management, native forest regrowth and renewable energy projects in developing countries.”
EnergyAustralia also offers Business Carbon Neutral, where small and medium-sized businesses can offset the carbon dioxide associated with their electricity usage for a flat annual fee and in turn can promote their climate credentials.
EnergyAustralia’s goal is to be carbon neutral by 2050 in line with the transition to a modern, cleaner energy system. The company is also Australia’s fourth largest voluntary buyer of locally produced verified offsets, supporting projects that improve soil quality, vegetation, and provide good quality regional jobs.
