EnergyAustralia today launched its $10 million “Power Your Future” program, providing transition support to workers at the Yallourn power station and mine ahead of its planned closure in mid-2028.

The program supports any worker that calls Yallourn home, including contractors, with access to services to plan, prepare and train for the future - whether that be a new job, retirement or self-employment.

The program, detailed in a 44-page handbook given to 588 Yallourn workers last week, includes:
• personalised career plans
• training support
• individual career coaching
• financial advice and planning
• small business seed funding
• job application assistance
• links to employment opportunities

Mark Collette, EnergyAustralia Managing Director, said the company is determined to ensure a smooth transition for its people and the local community.

“The Yallourn mine and its power stations have provided faithful service to the people of Victoria for over 100 years. This would not have been possible without the men and women who work each day and night at Yallourn, 365 days a year, to keep the lights on for the state.

“Our Yallourn people have received comprehensive information on the support available to them. From February, each person will have the opportunity to develop an individual transition plan with a specialist coach, tailored to their specific needs.

“We want to demonstrate that coal-fired power can exit the market in a responsible way that supports our people, customers and the community,” said Mr Collette.

The “Power Your Future” initiative is the first of its kind for the energy sector, providing transition support six years ahead of Yallourn’s closure in 2028.
