EnergyAustralia achieves Silver status for sixth time in annual AWEI awards
We recently achieved Silver in the 2024 Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI), the definitive national benchmark on LGBTQA+ workplace inclusion.
The AWEI is the largest and only national benchmark designed to measure the overall impact of LGBTQA+ inclusion initiatives on organisational culture as well as the impact on people who identify as LGBTQA+ and those that don’t. This year’s submission is the first for a revamped and updated benchmark which we’ll be measuring against until 2026, with the questions now updated for the newest barriers and challenges faced by LGBTQA+ people in workplaces today.
Our achievement of Silver for the sixth time is testament to the commitment and efforts by many at EnergyAustralia to help our LGBTQA+ community members feel safe, included and respected at work every day. Through a dedicated group of people in our internal Prism Network, and scores of allies and supporters across the organisation, we retained our Silver status through a range of activities and programs aimed at achieving an inclusive, welcoming workplace for all.
There is always more to be done though, so we’re looking forward to the challenge of going for Gold and building upon the fine work that’s been done so far.
Prism Network co-chair Zeke Farrell said, “The AWEI is an important benchmark for EnergyAustralia to ensure that our LGBTQA+ employees, feel safe, included and valued as part of the organisation.”
“It allows us to understand where we are place in relation to the index, where are excelling and where there is opportunity for us to be even better."
“Our result this year confirms that we are on the right trajectory to achieve our goal of Gold within the next 12 months and affirms the work of our committee, leaders and passionate people that LGBTQA+ are welcome at EnergyAustralia.”
Prism Network co-chair Lauren Horwood said, “Maintaining our Silver employer status for the sixth year in AWEI is a great achievement and I’m very proud of the work our wonderful volunteer committee and supporters do to keep the momentum and continually strive to create a more inclusive and welcoming workplace for all.”
Thanks to all who were involved in this year’s submission.
