5th March 2025

If you’re facing an emergency, call 000 immediately, or visit the relevant emergency services websites:

Outage preparedness checklist

Severe weather can cause power outages, so it’s important to be prepared. Here are some key steps to take:

  • Keep your mobile phone charged and sign up for outage notifications from your distributor (where available).
  • Keep a torch with working batteries in an easily accessible place.
  • Prepare a backup power source such as a battery or generator and check it regularly.
  • Create an emergency kit in case of extended outages that includes water, food and medical supplies.
  • Check your distributor’s website for up-to-date information on outages

If an unplanned power outage leads to a life-threatening situation, call 000 and request emergency services immediately.

Understanding power outages and your distributor

If you’re currently experiencing an outage or have been impacted by the weather, check your electricity distributor’s website for the latest information. Your distributor is responsible for maintaining the electricity infrastructure (poles and wires) in your area.

Not sure who your distributor is? You can find this information on your bill. Simply log in to My Account to download a copy.
